Fascinating article, thank you for writing.

I leaned heavily on cannabis for about a decade to help self-medicate depression. While I used it unceremoniously and without intention, it was the first chemical that provided some measure of physical relief.

However, I found that from a mental wellness perspective, relying on it as a daily medicine only suppressed what needed healing and kept me perpetually out of balance. I was stuck in this weird, comfortably numb limbo state.

It’s only relatively recently that I’ve reawakened to myself, which was solely possible by leaving cannabis in my rearview mirror.

With this said, I’d love your opinion, because I’m a strong believer in the healing power of psychoactive molecules: Compared to the other substances in your list, cannabis seems to be the only one with a high potential for abuse. For those who find relief/wisdom in its effects, how can they avoid falling into an addiction trap?

Thanks for sharing this! I love the idea of reframing “getting high” as something purposeful and uplifting. When used mindfully, cannabis can be such a beautiful tool for connection, introspection, and healing—just like yoga or meditation.

The Indigenous perspectives are incredibly inspiring and resonate so much more with me than the Western approach. Plants like cannabis have always been about balance, spirituality, and wellness—not just recreation. It’s all about intention, honoring the plant, and using it to raise our vibration rather than escape.

Protecting kids’ developing minds is so important, but equally vital is giving them knowledge about these plants and their healing potential. It’s about preparing the mind and teaching how to use these tools wisely and with respect and introducing children early to mediation, pranayama and mindfulness.

Let’s keep these sacred and purposeful, using them as a way to grow, heal, and connect—not just for a quick thrill.

Love this conversation—thank you! 🌿✨
